What a Day it Will Be!

Post by Julie Barnes on Fri May 12th, 2006

Amazing! God is truly amazing! Al is talking to everyone he knows, inviting them to our concert in the park in July and he stops in at Wellspring Books in Urbandale to chat with Tiffany. She's pretty excited about what she hears and says her husband is in a band and they're not touring that week, so maybe they'd want to join us. Not knowing any better, Al excitedly says, "Yes!" Later he learns that Tiffany's husband is Matt Baird, lead vocalist of Spoken, hard rock / metal artists with Tooth & Nail Records! Slowly it dawns on us that the transition from our acoustic praise & worship band to their hard rock / metal band could be a bit tough. What to do . . . ?

Well, of course, put a few more bands in the middle. Find some harder edged rock, maybe a little more metal, make a wider gap in the transition. Sure! Perfect idea! Now we're up to four bands and looking for the stage and lights! What fun! This is fast becoming far more than just our little concert in the park, but we're so excited to be watching God's had at work. It seems that even before we ask, people are there to offer their assistance, bands are contacting us to see if they can play, and lots of little details are coming to mind.

Thanks for joining us in this journey. I can't wait to see you at the concert and will be excited to see how it all turns out. Be praying with us as we continue to wait for final approval from the City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department. For whatever reason, the director hasn't been able to look at our application . . .

Concert in the Park

Post by Julie Barnes on Tue May 2nd, 2006

After completing the winter season of concerts at local area coffee shops, Al and I have begun seeking outdoor venues where Tim Cooper & Friends can share the message of the Gospel with the people of Metro Des Moines. Several beautiful parks have presented themselves as options, but city requirements, power requirements or scheduling has blocked all but a few. So, we've finally decided on Gray's Lake and have begun the application and approval process.
