Another Vendor from God . . .

Post by Julie Barnes on Mon May 17th, 2010

With this being our second year having a Coffeehouse Acoustic Tent, we've been working for months trying to find a coffee vendor who would take on this venue. While there are several options in town, many of them either (a) have a conflict with the date or (b) don't take their mobile units out anymore. We've been stunned to find this slot so hard to fill. But, that has only made God's provision that much sweeter!

Jo Otto, with Roselen's Coffee & Delights, a coffee vendor who loves to do outdoor music festivals just happened to run across Spirit Midwest while she was surfing the internet. After talking about our festival and their facility - which they would need to bring from Illinois - they agreed to be a part of Spirit Midwest 2010. I can't wait to sample their wares. As a serious coffee aficianado, I'm sure I'll be enjoying many of their offerings, which include frappes, lattes, chai and smoothies. I hope you'll make time to visit Roselen's in the Coffeehouse Acoustic Tent at Spirit Midwest 2010!

God-Given Food at the Festival!

Post by Julie Barnes on Mon May 10th, 2010

You know, it never ceases to amaze me to see God move - especially when He does something without me ever asking or thinking I need what He provides. But, that's just what he did when He provided 3 Blind Pigs as our BBQ vendor for Spirit Midwest 2008. Let me tell you how...

In 2007, we brought guest speakers Alan & Vicki Greene, founders of Lifelight Music Festival in Sioux Falls, SD, to our festival to share their vision and ministry. We were honored to receive backstage passes from them along with their invitation to join them at their festival the following month! After a full day of talking to volunteers, artists and vendors, we headed off to the concession area to grab some dinner. As a passionate BBQ fan, I was excited to find 3 Blind Pigs. The food was awesome, so we started in our on little interview with Jack about how he came to be a vendor and why he likes the festival atmosphere, etc. Imagine our shock and surprise when we found out that they were actually FROM DES MOINES! Our only disappointment was that our festival had already occurred, so we'd have to wait till the following year to have them join us!

However, as soon as our vendor applications were ready in the spring of 2008, theirs was the first one we sent. We just knew we wanted them to join us - and sure enough, they came out and shared their wares. The food was just as wonderful as I remembered and I was eager to make 3 Blind Pigs an annual tradition at Spirit Midwest. We've been blessed to have them join us each year and look forward to seeing them again at Spirit Midwest 2010. We're sure you'll agree that their food and their hospitality are fantastic!

Their menu will include pulled pork, brisket, chicken - and maybe even fall-off-the-bone ribs! - along with side salads, dessert and drinks! Be sure to check out 3 Blind Pigs at Spirit Midwest - you'll be glad you did!

New Favorites Are Born!

Post by Julie Barnes on Fri May 7th, 2010

Last night was an awesome evening of music and ministry. The evening opened with Mikeschair, who instantly became the new favorite of many of the people at the concert. With their unique sound and stage presence, they grabbed the audience's attention and held it for the entire set. Luckily, Jonny Diaz knew how to transition into his set - first with humor combined with great music - then into amazing worship! His lyrics and passion flowed as he ministered to and touched our hearts. David Nasser shared his testimony with a challenge to live a life focused on, dedicated to and glorifying God. Then Sanctus Real exploded onto the stage with their newest release, Forgiven. This was truly a fantastic night!

Fantastic Night!

Post by Julie Barnes on Mon May 3rd, 2010

The April Festival Showcase Concert was great! Tim Cooper & Friends opened the night and immediately bathed the event in Scripture through the original music of Tim Cooper. It's always a blessing being a part of this band as we never walked away unchanged. The Bible states that God's Word does not return void - whether it's the first time you've heard it or the hundredth - and we are living proof of that. Each time we share Tim's songs, God's love, mercy and grace pour down upon us. We pray that those who hear are equally as blessed!

Next up was Next Crossing, a band we have come to know over the past couple of years and thoroughly enjoy. Their hearts and spirits for worship and praise are infectious as they share their contemporary rock music. We're excited each time we see them as they bring new originals they've been working on that truly bless us!

Our final band was Saved on Sunday, a new favorite who has been making their mark on the Des Moines music scene this year by playing our 545 Concert in January and several Saints' Nights concerts at The Tomb in downtown Des Moines, as well as numerous First Friday concerts at Eagle Vision Church on SW 9th in Des Moines. We're excited to see God growing up this awesome group of young men who show more and more talent each time we see them!

Keep checking back to find out what's in store for our next Festival Showcase Concert!
