Praying for the festival...

Post by Julie Barnes on Tue Jun 29th, 2010

We know that God listens to His people and with the complexity of the festival (for us, not Him), we need to share our petitions and challenges with Him. Likewise, we know that God continues to speak to His people and it is our sole desire to follow His lead and live in His ways.

The purpose of the festival is not just to present awesome entertainment for Christians, although it is an awesome experience to join with hundreds of others in worshiping Him in praise. But in reality, the very heart and soul of Spirit Midwest is to create an atmosphere where those who know of God and those who believe in God are compelled to come together. Then, through the Messages being shared in music and Word (through the speakers) – as well as the very real presence of the Holy Spirit – those who know of God can come to truly believe in Him and those who believe in God are challenged to deepen their walk with Him

We have eagerly watched God trace nearly every detail of this festival each year and we know that He has great things in store for us on August 6 & 7. With your help and through our united prayers, we are trusting that each one of His plans will be brought to fruition: those He has called will be present, hearts that have been closed will be opened, walls that have been erected will be torn down and lives that have been broken will be healed. That seems like a pretty tall order for a music festival, but nothing is impossible with God, right? God has called us to this mission – and that is exactly what it is - a mission. So, we know that He will perform His good work.

To ensure that we are properly focused in these final weeks leading up to the festival, we have put together a Prayer Guide that provides Scripture, prayer requests and actual prayers for the festival. Because of the many aspects involved in putting this festival together, we have provided several days for prayer and reflection on each of the areas of need so we can be sure to cover everything in prayer. We know that before a word is on our lips, He knows it completely – and yet we want to be faithful to present our requests to God so that we can be powerful and effective.

Would you be interested in volunteering to be a Prayer Partner with Spirit Midwest Ministries? If so, email julie@spiritmidwest.com and she'll get the Prayer Guide to you so you can join with countless others in lifting the needs of the festival before the Throne of God.

Posters, Posters . . . Everywhere?

Post by Julie Barnes on Sat Jun 26th, 2010

We had a great day going door-to-door at area businesses, apartment complexes and the Art Festival putting up posters and passing out cards about the festival this summer. We were blessed with a beak in the rain just as we pulled in to the coffee shop and soon found ourselves actually praying for a drop or two as the sun beat down on us! I never thougbt I'd be anxious for rain, but just a few drops sure would have helped cool us off!

Of course, today was just the first of many days of postering the city. We haven't been everywhere yet. Want to help us out? Click on our Media page and you can print out our posters, bulletin inserts or flyers and pass them out in your neighborhood! We'd appreciate the assistance and your neighbors will be glad you shared! I'd be happy to print them out for you, if you like. Just send me an email and I'll mail them to you.

We have no doubt that this year's festival is sure to be the best one ever! Thank you for helping us spread The Word.

Free Coffee This Saturday!

Post by Julie Barnes on Tue Jun 22nd, 2010

It's time to rally the troops! Meet me this Saturday, June 26, at 9 AM at Smokey Row Coffee (1910 Cottage Grove) and then we’ll hit the streets with posters. Come early and the coffee’s on me!

As a very small, non-profit organization, funding for huge advertising blitzes just doesn't happen, so we need all the help we can get to spread the word. We sincerely believe that God has orchestrated the ministry of Spirit Midwest and has specific plans and goals to accomplish in the lives that are touched through our festival. Will you help us make sure every person God is calling hears about the festival?

While many people will go to church with a friend once in a while, there are others who aren't so easily persuaded. Spirit Midwest is the perfect place to bring these friends and/pr family members. With all kinds of activity going on, a completely non-threatening atmosphere, lots of great music and food - they'll never think of the festival as "church." And yet, as we know, the Word of God doesn't return void. As a Christian festival, God's Word will be in the lyrics, spoken of throughout the day, and showered over the grounds as we pray for the festival both before and during the event. It is our deepest desire that this Word will penetrate the hearts of those who haven't committed their lives to the Lord and draw them in. We also pray that it will draw those who do walk with the Lord into a deeper relationship with Him.

Help us spread The Word - meet me for coffee this Saturday at Smokey Row, 1910 Cottage Grove, Des Moines - 9 AM. Come early and your coffee's on me!
